Students of the Construction Technology Program organized a technical field trip to Uytun Concrete Plant, one of the leading facilities in the region, to observe their theoretical knowledge in the field

17 March 2026

During the first stage of the visit, the fundamental units of a concrete batching plant were inspected accompanied by experts. The production process was followed through these stages:

  • Aggregate Storage and Hoppers: Hoppers where aggregates of different gradations (sand, gravel, crushed stone) are stored in separate compartments were observed.

  • Precision Weighing System: The process of weighing aggregates according to the concrete mix design and transferring them to the mixer via belt conveyors was monitored.

  • Cement Silos and Additive Units: The simultaneous integration of cement (the binding material) from silos, and water and chemical additives from dosing units into the system was examined.

  • Mixer: The production stage was completed as the fresh concrete, which achieved a homogeneous structure in the mixer unit—the "heart of the plant"—was transferred to transit mixers.

Following the production phase, our students moved to the facility's quality control laboratory, where they both observed and personally participated in critical tests that determine concrete performance:

  1. Slump Test: In this test, conducted to measure the workability of fresh concrete, the consistency was measured to confirm its suitability for the application area.

  2. Methylene Blue Test: This sensitive test, which identifies the ratio of fine materials (clay) and their harmful effects in the aggregate, was detailed in terms of material cleanliness.

  3. Sampling and Curing: The standardized procedure for taking cube samples, placing them by tamping, and the storage conditions in curing tanks were demonstrated practically.

  4. Concrete Crushing (Compressive Strength) Test: It was reported whether the concrete reached its design strength through crushing tests performed on samples cured in a laboratory environment.

At the end of the trip, our students had the chance to develop their professional vision by experiencing the discipline of the construction site and the plant first-hand. We would like to thank the management and technical team of Uytun Beton for opening their doors to us and sharing their expertise.
