About
Population growth and developing technology bring about the need for a greater number of qualified construction technicians in the design and construction of higher-capacity transportation networks, water resources, the repair or reconstruction of existing roads, bridges, and other structures.
Construction technicians form a professional group that actively participates in the construction of structures such as dams, roads, airports, and residences; works as technical staff in companies providing supervision services, as well as in the natural resources, transportation/highway, construction divisions, and material testing laboratories of public or local administrations; and has the authority to sign as a Site Manager for certain structures within the framework of relevant regulations. They play an important role as technical staff in the planning, project, construction, and control phases of all structures, ranging from highways, bridges, dams, airports, water supply/distribution systems, to residences and trade centers.
Program Content and Aim
The aim is to train CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIANS who possess a high level of vocational knowledge and skills, can easily adapt to business life and technological developments, and will be valuable and beneficial to humanity, meeting the needs of the country.
The Construction Technology Program organizes its curriculum with both practical and theoretical training to educate the construction technicians required by the construction sector. The program specifically aims to train technical staff who have the necessary knowledge, skills, and aptitude for preparing architectural and static projects, can perform quantity surveying and estimation, are capable of using land and map measurement tools, can prepare construction site work programs, and can produce and supervise the implementation of projects on topics such as earthquake-resistant housing construction, transportation, and soil mechanics.
History
Our program, established in 2020, began admitting students in the 2021-2022 academic year. There is a quota of 30 students in formal education. The educational activities are conducted by three permanent faculty members. Besides the classrooms where the students are educated, they have adequate access to the other laboratories and technology classrooms within the vocational school, which provide opportunities for basic computer applications, CAD applications, and all types of presentation viewing.
Degree Earned
Students who successfully complete this program are entitled to receive an Associate Degree in Construction Technology and are granted the title of Technician (Tekniker).
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have applied for the YGS exam (or equivalent), made their choices during the preference period, and registered at the school to which they are placed. They must have a high school or equivalent diploma or have achieved a sufficient score in the undergraduate entrance examination.
Inter-Program Transfer (Horizontal Transfer)
The procedures and principles to be followed for horizontal transfers between diploma programs within Balıkesir Vocational School or to equivalent diploma programs at other higher education institutions are regulated in the "Balıkesir University Directive on the Principles for Intra-Institutional and Inter-Institutional Horizontal Transfers."
For students wishing to transfer using the central placement base score (Additional Article-1), their central (YKS) placement score for the year of registration must be equal to or higher than the base score of the program they wish to transfer to at our university, and they must not have previously benefited from this right. The procedures and principles regarding the processes to be carried out are regulated on the relevant website.
Progression to Higher Level (Vertical Transfer)
Vertical transfer is possible to the Civil Engineering and Architecture departments of the relevant faculties through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).
Graduation Requirements
Students must meet the following requirements after completing the 2-year, 4-semester education period: a general grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, successful completion of the compulsory courses in the curriculum, successful completion of a total of 120 ECTS credits, and successful completion of a minimum of 30 working days of internship.

Our graduates can be employed in all types of public and private institutions where construction activities are carried out, in contracting firms performing these activities, in architecture and engineering offices, and in businesses they establish themselves.
